Perona deflates at that. Mihawk was right. The two of them had been cursed long ago by the island itself, forced to linger within the castle and the shrouded grounds outside. They had been tasked with keeping the secrets of the old kingdom safe from outsiders, and the only way to break their duty was for one of them to find true love. So far, no one who survived long enough to even see Mihawk or Perona had fit the bill, and the island had gotten rid of the intruders quickly.
You, however, seemed to be a special case. The island had whispered for Mihawk to go to the harbor today as if knowing that this human would be different. Had urged him to be quick so that the humandrills that inhabited the island would not find her first. It confused the swordsman, but still, he had done what the island bid him. Now here he was, carrying a woman deep into his castle so that his ghostly charge could nurse her back to health.

Law swallows the lump in his throat. "Luffy," he says, and he can tell the rare use of his given name gives him the other captain's full attention. "Roger called me--he called me a god. A fledgling one." He watches as Luffy's eyes widen in the silence that stretches between them, before laying out the conclusion he'd regretfully come to.
"I don't think this is going to stop. For any of us."
"You fix people, though," Luffy says, and there should be nothing in this world that makes that man's voice shake like that. Maybe that's the problem; they've definitely stepped outside the bounds of the world they know.
"I don't think I can fix this."
What happens when the world believes in you so much, that you start becoming something more?
