He rubbed the space between his eyes, making a mental note to talk with Avery about being less vague with his lists. The ringing from his pocket knocked him out of his contemplating.
Speak of the devil and he shall appear.
“Is something wrong, Avery?”
“Derek.” His body tensed up like a rope pulled tight. Avery didn’t sound right. His voice was shaking, low and tinged in enough fear that at first he wondered if it was someone else on the other end. “Derek- my parents are here.”
Derek just wanted to finish a grocery trip. It’s not his fault his partner has shitty parents.
