Finally, the girl processed the other person standing over her, a red cardinal (was it… made out of wood?) perched on his shoulder and a golden staff with red energy glowing on the end in his hand. He glared down at her with magenta eyes. The rest of his face was covered by a pale red bandana.
“Ah. So that explains it,” he muttered, the glow disappearing from the end of his staff. “Of course the only person incompetent enough to fall into a nixolotl’s lair is a human.”

‘Drowning,’ Wylan repeats, giggling. He burrows into Jesper’s side, making himself comfortable, and Jesper can’t help the besotted grin tugging at the corner of his mouth—but that’s okay, because everyone else looks charmed by their resident pigeon too.
‘Yeah?’ Nina says, from where she’s sat almost entirely in Mattias’ lap, ‘Were you drowning in alcohol, Wylan?’
‘No,’ he says, drawing the word out, and then he shakes his head again like he’s trying to think of something, ‘Weeeell, I’ve been drowned before. But not in alcohol.’ And, as if to offset the statement, he giggles and relaxes into Jesper once again.

Summary
Wylan is often the glue that holds the Crows together. Kaz is the smart one, Inej is the skilled one, Nina was the smooth talking one, Matthias was the strong one, and Jesper was the quick thinking (devilishly good looking if you asked the man in question) one. And then there is Wylan. Just Wylan.
