Even now, merely making her a milkshake, makes something so vulnerable and intimate stir inside Conrad. He thinks his heart might be swollen with love just from the sight of her sitting on his kitchen counter.

Summary
He runs his hands up and down her, up and down her cold bare legs, over her back, over her hair. His touch is burdened but amazing nonetheless, she feels every movement of his hands.
“You’ll be okay, Belly,” he says, “I’ll be okay and Jere will be okay.”
She nods against him because when he says those words it’s easy to believe. She thinks the summer, the year perhaps, has changed him because last summer he never would have thought those words let alone say them.
But now he says them like a prayer and it is all Belly can do to believe in it.

“We are a family,” Sirius says loudly and everyone freezes.
Harry, the bowl of salad in his arms, his mouth twitching as if to continue shouting. But Sirius raises an eyebrow in his direction and that effectively shuts him up. Dorcas is glaring, hands in fists at her side.Teddy is looking up at Sirius with idolising, wondrous eyes. And, well, Remus is a lot like his son in that respect.
The firmness to Sirius’ voice is something Remus hasn’t heard since Azkaban, certain and proud. Remus thinks he is proud to call them his family, this broken, angered heart of people not sharing his blood. But blood has never mattered to Sirius and it was never going to start mattering now.
“We are a family and we must stick together,” Sirius repeats, looking Remus in the eye. Remus smiles, shakey and worried. He puts his hand on Teddy’s shoulder. This is where I stand.
But Sirius only nods. “Help Harry set the table, Ted.”
OR the long story of Remus' life falling apart, but he pulls the pieces together as best as he can and post Prisoner of Azkaban, he makes himself a home and a family. Sirius Black and their children included.

Jonathan’s head lolls to the side, and he smirks at him. “I wasn't trying to insult you,” he says, “sorry. I just meant- I’ve been kind of aimless, lately, so. I guess I’m trying to say thank you. You’ve helped.”
Steve snorts. “What, because I’m another person for you to take care of?”
The joke falls flat between them, and Steve suppresses a wince as Jonathan considers him for a long moment. “Is that what you think you are to me?” he asks quietly after a beat, and Steve’s heart leaps up to somewhere in his throat.
Being friends with Jonathan is only weird if Steve makes it weird, right?
