Summary
The family legacy was to die in that suit. His legacy was to live, knowing death would follow him out of the crevices of those metal corners and into the lives of those around him. Those foolish enough to interact, to reach out, to care.
In which Robert reflects on the events leading up to the death of Elliot Connors and faces difficulties in accepting himself as both Mecha Man and Robert Robertson. He trips, stumbles, and struggles to find his footing. His loved ones are there to steady him.

Summary
Robert was tired.
Not just the “oh I just couldn’t sleep last night haha!” tired.
This exhaustion was bone deep, its cold claws seeping into his body, consuming his thoughts and making him ache.
How much longer would his families legacy continue to fuck up his life? He thinks as acidic knuckles dig into his cheekbone, blood blooming in his mouth.

i love this fic so much. each chapter felt like it could happen in-universe and the sense of comfort in the last chapter is palpable. robert finally has a proper family that cares for him and loves him for him and not what he inherited/was raised to covet.

Summary
another explosion comes and goes and, as usual, refuses to take robert with it. with the fate of the suit uncertain, he’s forced to confront the truth he’s been avoiding: the suit might never give him the ending he’d spent half his life expecting. which leaves him with the one outcome he’s utterly unprepared for—being alive in a room full of people who actually give a shit.
(aka, everyone was way too chill about robert almost exploding in the lab, including robert.)

Bookmarker's Notes
god this is so good. it hits all the thoughts i've had about robert that was never fully touched on in the game. he's such a quietly tragic character that only gets more tragic (and lovable) the more you think about how deeply fucked up he is.
he was never given the chance to not want to die. he's been raised to accept and strive for an early death like those before him. but he lived. multiple times.
so the one thing he was raised to strive for was ripped from him without him realizing that he was raised in a way to see suicide or an honorable death as an inevitability instead of a terrible circumstance.
augh i love this pathetic man

Summary
Charlie dies and doesn’t come back -- not right away, at least. When he does come back, everything feels different and also the same and Charlie isn’t sure if he can handle it.
