A few Swap AUs are already floating around, though the ratio of art/stories is skewed significantly in favor of the former. As someone who finds the idea irresistibly adorable, I figured it was only right to make Liam proud and use my power as a writer as irresponsibly as possible.
This story aims to balance canon events with my interpretation of events between episodes. Expect cannon to be altered or disregarded in some places, though I aim to stay as close to the show's original image as possible without simply retreading old ground.

It drew breath with a shudder.

Click. Flash.
Three twelve gauge at close range. Entering through the eyes, cheek, and mouth. Bucking in every front tooth on the way to making mince of the throat. In a blink, faster than the mind can transfer the sensation of eviscerated nerve endings to the brain, your head turned into mist above the shoulders, swirling in the air as the body collapsed to the steel decking, along with the hollow tinkle of three spent shells and friction-heated bone.
It was the start of a beautiful friendship.

Summary
For Serial Designation J, it's lonely being only effective disassembly drone in her sector of Copper-9. N was already a walking synergistic liability, but V couldn't be more obviously stressed and maladaptively coping if she tried. When a botched disassembly leaves V a nightmare-riddled wreck, the squad's effectiveness hits its lowest point. With disassemblers like these, you'd swear the worker drones show more initiative!
Uzi Doorman is a cool, independent worker drone. After Doll abandoned her, she doesn't need anyone else — all she needs is to finish her railgun and blow the murder drones anyway. Of course, if that plan goes wrong she'll be helpless at their mercy — dead, in other words.
Because J is a loyal drone. Locate, shutdown, disassemble. A simple directive she'd never hesitate to carry out. Right?

Also manages to fix some of the personal gripes I have with the show through small alterations to the official plot. An easy recommend for those looking for something familiar, but different
