“Enough. I’m tired of being passed from one person to the next. Tell me,” the woman says fiercely after Kara has been quiet for too long. “Who are you?”
“I’m, um,” Kara says, wiggling her feet until they’re buried in the sand up to the ankle. “I’m Kara.”
The woman stares at Kara, incredulous and silent. It stretches out between them, those lingering questions and Kara’s unwillingness to answer them, until finally her shoulders sink and she deflates with a small, disbelieving laugh.
“Right. Well, I’m Lena,” she says, finally seeming to realize her dress is torn and pulling it tighter, "and if you don’t mean me harm, then I suppose you just saved me.”

Together they work through their new relationship and find that they do not need to be traditional to be a family. And maybe they don't need to go it alone.

One of my all time favorite fanfictions. The first part starts with an incredibly boring novelization of the games storyline with slight hints peppered within. This is intentional, but I did nearly drop it. The story really starts picking up on Feros, and after that's it just gets better and better. Highly recommended
