Summary

Steve takes a deep breath and picks up the receiver, “Hello?”
The kitchen lights flicker once, so quickly that he convinces himself that he imagined it, and then there’s a crackling, a kind of static-y hiss against his ear, and the rasp of a voice, “Hey, I need, uh, police?”
There’s something familiar about the voice, something twitching at the back of his mind, the tip of his tongue, but Steve can’t quite place it.
“Hello? Anyone there? Please?” it comes again, laced with so much desperation that it has the back of Steve’s neck prickling uncomfortably, “I need- shit, I need help.”
AKA Billy is trapped in the Upside Down and somehow manages to call Steve's house.

Steve is there for both parts, Billy's death and his rebirth and he isn't sure which sight is worse - watching Billy get stabbed again and again and again by that thing, that monster made from parts of townspeople, people he knows, or if it's worse seeing Billy come crawling up out of the dirt late one Sunday night while he's out wandering in the woods, smoking and thinking and thinking and smoking, wondering for the thousandth time what exactly it is he's supposed to be doing with his life.
