Summary
“Didn’t realize you had her number.” Damn, if Buck were a better wingman, he would have thought of this himself. Of course Eddie is interested in Alex! He’s not sure why it makes him feel a little sick to think about. It’s just, why didn’t Eddie tell him? Have they been talking?
“I got it from Athena.” Eddie seems a little suspicious now. Or defensive? His eyebrows are doing that crinkling thing.
Right, of course, Athena, makes sense. Okay, Eddie didn’t want to tell him at first, but Buck can catch up now. He can be so supportive.
“That’s great! Alex is great. So smart. So good at her job. SMART- get it? System-wide Mental Assessment Response… you get it.”
OR: Buck spirals, Eddie reels him in.

Summary
The drive back to the station was short, but much rougher than the ride out. Buck felt like his brain had been shaken loose and was rattling around in his skull. He leaned against the window to try to stop the pounding in his head. He didn’t deserve to feel this upset over Chris. He wasn’t Chris’ father. And anyway, Christopher was fine! Everyone was fine. Nothing had really happened, in the end, except a dead phone battery and a little good old-fashioned teenage rebellion.
The constant jostling was messing with his stomach, too. He could feel every bump and swerve in his gut, roiling and churning with mounting intensity. Cold sweat pricked at his skin.
Eddie definitely didn’t want Buck to come over, or he would have said so. Buck had gotten used to thinking of Eddie and Chris as his family, but they hadn’t been like that in months, had they? No, longer. Not since Chris left for Texas, really. It had been too long, it was too late. Bile rose in his throat and he choked it back down.
OR: Buck definitely does not have the flu, he’s just sad about Eddie and Chris

Summary
Eddie was made for the samba, that much was abundantly clear. Buck couldn’t keep up; didn’t even really try. He just hung on to Eddie, along for the ride. Eddie wrapped his arms around Buck’s neck and sunk down in front of him, writhing back and forth. He slid back up Buck’s body, rolling their hips together. Buck couldn’t help but respond in kind. It was sinful, it was magical.
OR: Eddie dances, Buck daydreams. Then it gets messy.

Summary
“If you say ‘chain of command’ one more time…”
“Or else what?”
Eddie cringed every time he played it back in his head. Which he couldn’t stop doing. Why did he say that out loud? It didn’t even make any sense!
But the truth was, the conversation had already been a few steps ahead in Eddie’s mind when that phrase popped out of his mouth.
He would raise an eyebrow, look Buck in the eye with a challenge, a dare, and repeat it. Slowly. Clearly.
“Chain. Of. Command.”

Summary
“You don’t want to date any women.” Buck repeats what Eddie said, processing. “Do you want to date… men?”
It’s out of his mouth before he can stop it. Eddie’s still not looking at him, staring at the wall, the empty bottles on the coffee table. His expression is somewhere between defeated and pained. “Buck...” he sighs. He runs his hands through his hair, lets it flop back onto his forehead.
When he finally brings his eyes up to meet Buck’s, there’s something resolute there. Pointed. “I want to date A man.”
OR: Eddie comes over to Buck’s after the throuple debacle. They talk. And stuff.

Summary
"Jesus, Buckaroo, what’d you do? Run through the whole lot?” Chim is saying when Eddie makes it inside.
“There aren’t that many needles,” Buck grumbles, his voice now audibly congested. Because of course he’s allergic to the tree. How Eddie didn’t notice during the forty-five minutes they spent in the tree lot is nothing short of supernatural, given the typical amount of attention he extends to Buck and his nasal passages.
OR
Buck is allergic, and Eddie suffers.

Summary
Buck really didn’t want to throw up in the truck, he’d never live it down. The nausea had come on suddenly, he’d been fine during the rescue and as soon as he’d sat down, it had crashed like a wave. Not only was he on the verge of vomiting, his bowls were also revolting again. As fine as he had felt two hours ago, as crappy was he feeling now.
You’re gonna make it, Buck. No way you’re puking in the truck.
Then Eddie nudged his shoe and Buck knew he’d been made.
Fantastic.

Summary
He should be glad of it. He doesn’t want people to know he’s struggling, and they don’t. But why doesn’t Buck know? He’s always known, always seen through Eddie’s carefully constructed walls and carved himself a door into them. Even when Eddie resisted, even when he pushed back, Buck ducked his head and shoved through and found the tender hurt Eddie was guarding, cupped his hands around it and held until it didn’t ache so much.
And now Eddie’s bleeding internally, swollen with regret, and Buck doesn’t say a thing. Eddie can’t ask him to. If he opens his mouth, he might just start screaming.
~
There's distance between Eddie and Buck. Eddie isn't falling apart. These are two equally true statements.
