For Dennis, it had started as a pretty usual day—at least, that’s what he told himself as he stepped through the sliding doors and into the sterile, humming rhythm of the hospital.
It was the first hour of his day shift, that strange in-between time where everything was awake but not fully alive yet. Machines beeped steadily, nurses exchanged quiet updates, and the faint smell of antiseptic clung to everything.
