Summary

Summary
The truth of the matter is, Kaveh has no idea how to read Alhaitham. He prides himself on being an expert at understanding people, his empathetic heart lending him the capacity to relate deeply with those around him (oftentimes to his detriment). But with Alhaitham, there is nothing for him to read; no clues from his cool expression for him to grasp. The man appears stoic all the time even during their petty bickering.
Honestly, when was the last time Kaveh has seen the man do anything except smirk or frown? Does Alhaitham feel happiness? Has he ever seen the man laugh?
Kaveh's mind is drawing a blank on the latter and it...bothers him deeply.

Kaveh is on his way home when he encounters a very strange mushroom following him home. Ever the altruist, Kaveh takes pity on the poor thing and gives it a pat on the head. One thing leads to another, and suddenly he finds himself coated in a dusting of spores with his hands down his pants outside his house, given specific instructions to not interact with Alhaitham.
Do either of them heed this warning? No. They don't.

Al-Haitham looks up. He watches the student’s red eyes darken with recognition. Unfortunately, Al-Haitham recognizes him too.
“Would you leave if I said ‘no’?” Al-Haitham asks.
And just like that, the student is sliding into the seat, flipping up the desk and pulling his tablet out. He shoots Al-Haitham a glare just as the professor starts lecturing.

Summary
It seems like Alhaitham’s greatest joy in life aside from his books is scenting Kaveh. He’s not a bother or a hindrance in any way—heck, Kaveh finds it absolutely adorable, the way Alhaitham will try to get his hands on him for scenting—so when Kaveh is around the house, cleaning or cooking or anything of the sort, Alhaitham won’t bother him.
But the minute he sits down, Alhaitham is on him like a pack of vengeful vultures, except instead of trying to eat him, Alhaitham just keeps aggressively scenting him.
Burrows his cold nose into Kaveh’s neck and makes him yelp every time—and then pat Alhaitham on the head, because how is he not supposed to, when he’s this cute?

"Haitham... Is everything okay?" Kaveh's voice was quiet, hesitant, and Alhaitham hated himself for being the cause of his wariness and uncertainty, for not being able to control his mood.
"No." Alhaitham answered simply; the admission was easier than expected.
Kaveh's brows pinched together before he stepped forward, his hands curling around Alhaitham's waist. "...What do you need?"
Normally bad days didn't bother him. It was a simple thing to return home and decompress peacefully, but he felt wound tight, jaw clenched, and knew that he was in a mood he didn't wish to subject Kaveh to, something that drove him to try and seek solitude. However upon returning home, he found himself reevaluating their relationship and his place in it.

“You’re perfect, Kaveh.” Alhaitham is breathless when he says it, as if he’s struggling to breathe, as if his lungs have decided to check out for the evening. They must have, because his heart has taken full reign, beating wildly enough in his chest to make up for the lost air, and Kaveh is to blame.
Kaveh’s skin burns bright. Heat spills from his cheeks, down his neck, dripping onto his chest, and he looks away, but that does not stop Alhaitham from devouring him with his eyes, his hands, his lips. “Says you,” Kaveh counters, yet the effort is fruitless.
“Yes, says me. I am seldomly wrong, Kaveh, and I am not wrong now.
“Flattery will get you no—”
Alhaitham silences him with a kiss. It's all heat and passion and salt. Hunger and desperation and devouring. Flattery will get him nowhere for he has nowhere to go. He’s right where he wants to be.
