“Meryl!” Vash gasps from the ground, laughing. “You scared me! I didn’t see you there.”
Meryl could let him keep his ruse. She could tell him to watch where he steps because they can’t have him breaking an ankle. She could wish him well, roll over, and pretend to go back to sleep.
“You don’t have to do that,” Meryl says instead.
Vash cocks his head. “Do what?”
“That thing you do,” she says. “Where you act like a klutz for others’ benefit.”
Or, Meryl considers how Vash the Stampede can be clumsy one minute and frighteningly agile the next and realizes it’s by design.

“You know how cats purr?” Vash says finally. “Like when they’re happy or stre—”
“You’re purring because you got stabbed? Christ, Blondie, I knew you were a masochist but—”
“Not like that! Let me finish!”
Or, cats purr when they feel happy and safe or are in pain and need to self-soothe. Vash does the same. But Vash doesn’t have many moments where he feels happy and safe, so Wolfwood and Meryl only ever hear him purr when he’s injured or hurting. The first time they hear him purr from happiness, they panic.

Aizawa crossed his arms. “I fractured your nose and threw you out of the ring so hard that you were knocked unconscious,” he said matter of factly. “In front of thousands of spectators and peers. And you congratulated me. Head trauma was the rational assumption.”

Washington is a total freak.
Tucker figured that out all the way back on Sidewinder.
So the guy was weird. Whatever. Once the UNSC showed up, he wouldn’t be Tucker’s problem anymore.
But then Caboose decided he wanted a pet.Or, after picking Wash up on Sidewinder, it's going to take everyone a while to get used to the new living arrangements. Especially Wash, who's a bit directionless now that he's finally free of the Project. Tucker doesn't care for Blue Team's new leader. But he can't help noticing some of the man's odd habits and wondering what caused them.

When Dazai Osamu first appeared on the agency’s doorstep with an incomplete application and a halfhearted recommendation, Ranpo’s first impression was ‘kill it with fire.’
His second thought was ‘it can’t join the agency.’ Much like a stray cat, Ranpo could see in the thing’s desperate, starved eyes that if it were given a scrap of affection, it would curl up in the nearest sunny spot and never leave. He didn’t need his (an) ability to see that.

"If I did say that," Chuuya wrapped the bandages around his arms. "Would it stop you from doing it again?"
Dazai fell silent.
He had no words to speak. He had not expected that from the ginger. He had expected a snarky remark, an angry outburst, anything but the tired resignation.
