Summary
The Queen is dead. Long live Pale Blue Monica, Student, stardust, om, amen, and Detainee 3487 sits quietly in her mind and replays her memories. She will let go, become one, unravelling under the tutelage of her jailers.
Assistant Director John Doggett has vowed not to return until she is free, and in the meantime he writes down everything he can remember. He does this for them both, so that he never repeats his mistakes, and so that when she is exonerated he can help her come back to being Monica Reyes.
That is, of course, assuming she doesn't come home in a body bag.

This is part 3 of the Seasons series, a long form fic, as canon compliant as possible, to show the events of S8 and 9 from Doggett and Reyes' perspective. I have to invent some things to make it make sense.
YEAR ONE details S8 of the show as Doggett, Scully, and Reyes' converge towards the nexus of the X-Files. You may wanna read those first, but you can get away with reading them later on.
Episodes referenced are in the notes at the beginning so you can watch those and avoid spoilers. They are not shot for shot retellings. This is the stuff that CC and co-missed.

A mostly canon-compliant retelling of Seasons 8 and 9 from Doggett and Reyes' perspectives. This is the big 2026 fic.
That being said we are starting out post-the truth, but it's really fine. As a reader you should be able to watch an episode (it will be obvious which), and then come back here for a link in the chain that gets us to the next. It should help explain some of the baffling decisions the show made, and it should bring a little meat to Monica's character.

Mulder and Scully are called out to Sugar Hollow, Alabama, in the wake of the disappearances of three girls.
The people are strange and uncanny. The humid heat never seems to let up. The Sheriff thinks that they're married.
He wants a store that stocks sunflower seeds. She wants looser clothes that won't stick to her sweat. They both want a proper motel room with two beds.
It'll be a miracle if their professional relationship makes it out alive.
