Each chapter was written so they can be read as a standalone or read together to tell an entire story. This story was originally written in 2014 and completed in 2020.
This follows MSR beginning with "The End" in season five all the way until post season 11. It is canon compliant. The continuity in the storylines always bothered me, MSR deserved more than to become an x-file. This is a result of that nagging and a labor of love.
This story is part of a larger series (titled Rooted in Friendship) that begins pre-season 1 and covers every episode of the X-Files up to Season 11 and then beyond into its own universe.

Halloween. England. 1974. Dana Katherine Scully loves her life. Being ten and seeing the world because of her dad’s Navy postings is the best, in her opinion. (Especially because England is the second country she’s lived in. Visited countries are another story.) Dana even gets along wonderfully with all her siblings. William ‘Bill’ or ‘Billy’ Junior, Melissa ‘Missy,’ and Charles ‘Charlie’ Scully. They in turn adore Dana. So it isn’t any surprise to their parents when all four of their children choose to make their own Halloween fun this year. Dana is just happy to be in the moment. She can’t recall a better Halloween. But… Just because you’d like for something to happen splendidly, that still doesn’t mean there won't be some kind of detour. In one fashion. Or another.

Summary
The back garden stretches on for miles, an endless sea of green with white speckles – clover. Small tufts of flattened grass mark the path she trudges through it, the long strands tickling her ankles as she wades toward the end of the garden. She ducks under the clothesline, pushing sheets aside as she moves past the halfway mark. Her short strides take her all the way to the border wall before stalling. It’s an old construction, probably older than Nana’s house, and crumbling at one end. Her brothers, for what they’re worth, showed her how to climb across the threshold to be able to venture into the forest. Contrary to a guess, Bill and Charlie actually prefer to stay within a close radius of the house. Not because they’re scared of the woods, they swear, only in case their father should return from sea earlier than expected.
Dana finds she is drawn to the mossy stones and whispering trees. Drawn into them.
She’s distantly aware of the cries of excited children and sheep bleating, but the darkened woodland calls her sweetly.
She knows exactly where she’s going.
