To most, Wonder Woman is an impossible dream. A princess, a goddess, a warrior, an ambassador, a miracle, a hero, she was them all. To many, a glimpse of her is holy. Others see her as a celebrity, equally unfathomable. Even those that could bear to share space with Diana of Themyscira, whether in adulation or hate, can scarcely stop looking up to her.
Talia was different. Gods, royalty, warriors, heroes, these were well-trodden ground for the Demon’s Daughter.

Summary
Batman is dead. The Batcave is trashed. Gotham's protectors have all disappeared overnight. A dark gloom hangs over the city. There are eyes everyone can feel and no one can find.
Stephanie Brown's grand return to Gotham is met with an eerie silence and a disturbing lack of people telling her to go home. All she finds is a murderous brat dressed as Robin and an annoyingly theatrical crime boss that had her old job.
There's a Batman-shaped hole in Gotham, with only one gal left with the measurements to fill it. Who? That'd be a Spoiler.

Bruce died and Cass couldn’t breathe for a week. She didn’t want to believe it at first, didn’t want to even think of it. She knew Bruce and she knew death and they didn’t fit together, not at all.
He was gone, gone like Brenda and Bludhaven, gone like Steph had been. Like Faizul. She felt it inside of her, so keenly it was as if she had killed him by her own hand. She could search the whole earth and not find a trace of him. It was too much. The pressure was squeezing her insides, left her constantly choking for air. She couldn’t stop dry heaving.
Or: Bruce is dead. Instead of leaving, Cass stays in Gotham. She learns a thing or two about being Batman.

Just amazing, one of the best Batman Reborn fics, one of the best Cass fics, just so much to love. It's not about plot deviation, it's the key to even more complicated emotions as these characters messily explore what they mean to each other. Cannot recommend enough.
