He turned towards that sensation as if it were second nature, instinct taking over as he wandered over to be closer to that warmth, that safe harbor where he could finally be sequestered from the hectic emotions and thoughts he had encountered.

Kieran really did mean to make everything better. He’d planned on going back to school, apologising to everyone, and then getting back on track.
It’s just hard to see what on track means after letting so much go. Especially when everyone you were horrible to is being really nice about it when you don’t deserve it, you keep making your sister cry, and the meanest thing anyone will do is offer you weird drugs called ‘SSRIs’. If only there was someone or thing that could help...
