“So it’s time travel?”
“No, not quite,” Albedo gently chews on his lower lip in contemplation on how to simplify the concept. “The Ley Lines hold memories of everything that has ever happened in the world. It appears that this Ley Line disorder has converged the past memories with our current memories.”
Kaeya cocks his head to the side, “So we’re currently in the past?”
“I suppose you could put it like that, but it’s more like our past and our present have collided.”
“So, time travel?”
Albedo sighs, “Sure, let’s call it that.”
A growing string of disappearing people, a catastrophic Ley Line disorder, a chaotic space and a convoluted Fatui plot throws much of Mondstadt into a not-so-distant past, surrounded by uncomfortably familiar faces.
Unfortunately for Kaeya, this means forgoing a much-needed vacation to figure out what is actually going on, which is quite difficult when a certain Inspector keeps getting in the way.
And all the while grappling with the presence of a boy who looks and sounds like Diluc, but is someone far different than the man that Diluc has become.
Gods, he could really go for a drink right about now.

After a big event at the Dawn Winery, Diluc finds that one of the guests has stayed behind—Jean, his childhood friend and Acting Grand Master of the city. And even though they haven't been close in recent years, she still asks him a very special favor, and Diluc finds—to his surprise—he is only too happy to comply. No strings attached. No feelings involved. Obviously.
He smiled despite himself and held out his pinky.
"I promise, I won't laugh or make fun of you," he said solemnly.
Jean looked at him, surprised, before she chuckled and hooked her own pinky into his to shake his hand.
"Well then… Guess I have to tell you now." She averted her gaze once more and started to wring her hands again. "Maybe request isn't the right word. It's more of a favor I want to ask. Or maybe more of a… well, doesn't matter, right?"

The plan was simple: intercept the treasure hoarder before he could succeed with his thieving, then gag and bind him and have him hang in the statue plaza. That way everyone could see just how inefficient their precious knights were.
A blur of white dashed below, disappearing around the corner of Good Hunter, and Diluc made his move.
Well, he wanted to.
He was mid-crouch, ready to jump when he heard it. A soft mewl, followed by something nudging at his leg. When he looked down, wide eyes peered up at him.
“Meow,” the white and gray cat cried before nuzzling his leg and purring.
Now this was a… slight inconvenience.

"Is that something youre supposed to do as a kid?" Diluc asked, eyes trained on the counter.
Kaeya blinked, "Um. Transition? Typically people realize when they are young, and go from there. But I dont think theres really an age limit. Why?"
"So, adults can... do that too? Transition."
Oh. Kaeya suddenly felt very, very stupid. Was Diluc saying- was he- how had Kaeya not noticed??
"Yes, of course they can," Kaeya continued cautiously, "... is that.. something you were thinking about?"

Unfortunately this might not be what you hope, I headcanon Diluc as a trans woman but he still uses he/him pronouns.. all that changes is the terminology!

Summary
It's been six years since Diluc returned to Mondstadt, bringing with him a companion from the north. The two have settled into a peaceful life. Ajax has become a skilled adventurer, always ready to take the most difficult commissions from the Adventure's Guild, and Diluc has left the inheritance of the Dawn Winery behind, content with being a humble bartender. Their days of bloodshed are behind them.
However when an assassin begins to stalk the streets of Mondstadt, they realize that some things they thought they had left in the past have finally found them.

“I want to punch you,” Ragnvindr grits out, and there is something strange to his voice as he saying this, as though the admission pains him, “but Vassilev will kill me if I do.”
Ajax wets his bottom lip, and the corners of his mouth twitch when Ragnvindr’s gaze tracks the movement.
“You know,” he starts, now hungering for all things brilliant, and short-lived, and ruinous, “there are always other ways to get a man on his knees.”
Hearing this, Ragnvindr’s face makes a beautifully complicated expression. His thick brows draw together, and his mouth parts. He draws closer, sucked into this black hole, mistaking its gravity as the orbital of something grander, perhaps.
Ajax breathes in the lingering trace of Ragnvindr’s aftershave, the light scent of sandalwood, and lets out a breath of a laugh, despite himself.
“What?” He taunts, desperate to know if Ragnvindr would give in, if Ajax had it within himself to lasso a blazing sun. “Scared?”
It would be a tired sentiment if Ajax said that volleyball was the love of his life. After all, he wasn't quite in the business of sharing first loves.

"Amber, stay here with them and try to help them, I'm going in," Diluc practically orders her and it takes Amber a second too late to react.
"Wait, what?" Amber's head snaps up to catch sight of him right before he disappears into the portal. "Don't go on your own! That's an order!" Amber shouts at him, but it's already too late for her words to reach him.

Or, Kaeya's gone missing, and Amber and Diluc are the ones that go out to look for him.
