Summary
Steve has amnesia after a "house fire" when he was ten. All he knows is what his parents have told him. He doesn't realize that the kids don't know about it, and has some explaining to do.
About a month later, they're doing some digging and Steve discovers that he's been lied to--he was actually one of the numbers, discarded with a wiped memory after the experiment failed. Obviously he freaks out.
They go through the process of getting his powers back, and learn why his experiment was deemed a "failure" in the first place.

“Who’s Steve?” This made everyone start talking over each other again.
”Are you not Steve?” The kid asks, Finney shakes his head.
Finney was starting to get overwhelmed when a boy with long dark curly hair kneels down to him, Finney thinks he sort of looks like Vance, and asks “If you’re not Steve, then what’s your name?”
”Finney Blake,” He thought about it for a moment, “But my middle name is Steven,” He offered.
Or: Finney Blake is Steve Harrington, but right after Finney escapes he time travels to right after Vecna is defeated, and the only way to get back is to watch The Black Phone

Summary
Steve returns home to find his house broken into by a psychic child. Had it been anyone else, they would have freaked out. But this wasn't Steve's first time with something like this. In fact, he had been the first escapee from the Hawkins Lab that had wound up at Harrington's home, almost ten years earlier. So, based on personal experience, he should be able to handle hiding both a superpowered girl in his home along with his own secrets.
