Two inflection points; one is John's, the other, Sherlock's. While the subject is murder (the title says it all), the heart of each story is John and Sherlock's love for each other.

Bookmarker's Notes
Sherlock, carrying the psychic and physical wounds of two years away, responds to John's rage by escaping to a new life in Ireland. There he sheds all the trappings of Sherlock Holmes to become Will Scott, a beekeeper and musician. John, once the shock and rage have worn off, strives to find him and purely through serendipity manages to do so. Their slow coming together, their acknowledgement of their love, both emotional and physical, is a joy. Lovely characterizations (including OCs) and tremendously good writing make this an absolute joy.

Three years later, John had a girlfriend, a new job, and a new life, and just because his ex wasn’t dead didn’t mean they were going to go right back to the way things used to be.

One of my favorite post-Reichenbachs. Sherlock returns, but John is in a relationship with Mary. His hurt and subsequent rage cause pain to both of them. Mary is not a monster (pre-HLV). A great re-read.

Summary
“Sherlock, do you believe that you deserved the beating John gave you?”
He’s quiet. This question is an unsolvable riddle, every time he’s asked it.
~*~
Sherlock has never known how to take care of himself — let alone anybody else. But if he wants John back in his life, he knows he’ll have to try. In the wake of Mary’s death and John’s rejection, a countryside retreat and a new friendship help Sherlock begin to grow into a better man.

Bookmarker's Notes
Post TLD, Sherlock spends an extended time in enforced care and rehabilitation. He meets a young woman who believably cajoles him into interaction. John, meanwhile, is working and caring for Rosie and trying to come to terms with his feelings for Sherlock. When he and Sherlock tentatively reconnect, he finds himself jealous of Sherlock's new friend. The writing is superlative. Happy ending (though hard won) ahoy!
