Summary
“You should come with us,” Jamie says, and when Roy stares like he’s been punched in the face so hard it rattled his brain and he forgot how to speak English for a minute, Jamie adds, “To Brazil.”
“No.”
“What? Why?” Jamie bounces on his toes, getting his breath back after the morning run. It’s early enough that the air’s still cool. He sucks it down and feels alive. Buzzing, happy, the way hard training and easy goals and good sex always make him feel. He grins at Roy and demands, “What have you got to do that’s better than going to Brazil with me and Keeley?”

Summary
Walking to the caf for tea means passing the wall of photos from when they won the Premiership, and Roy stops for a minute, like he always does, letting his eyes wander over those familiar faces. Most of them he hasn’t seen in person in years, though they still have group chats and video meet-ups and all kinds of shit that he hates that he understands.
There’s one picture at the very end, him and Jamie Tartt with their arms thrown around each other, laughing next to the trophy. Roy always lingers on that one for a moment, and thinks about how that’s another phone call he could make, and should, and has been putting off for too long.

Summary
“I tore his shirt after he hit me,” Jamie says, fucking unbearably helpful. He shrugs and tucks his hands into the bottom of his light blue hoodie. “I’m not sure exactly how it went after that.”
“He pushed you against a wall,” Keeley says.
“Er… no?” Jamie says, puzzled. He twists his hands, stretching the fabric over them. His brows draw together like he’s thinking really hard about whether their stupid, embarrassing, ineffectual fight in the middle of an alley involved any walls.
It didn’t. Roy doesn’t know much but he knows that. What the fuck is Keeley doing?
“That’s where you went wrong, then,” Keeley says, and amends, “One of many places you went wrong, mind. Let’s get it right this time.”

Summary
Jamie's behaviour changes dramatically after they start doing the one-on-one training sessions. He used to be such a brash little bitch when he and Roy played together, and since his return to Richmond he's been more of a whiny little bitch, but now he's hardly acting like a little bitch at all. Roy doesn't know what to do with it.
"Is it just me, or has Tartt been almost tolerable lately?" he asks one day in the coaches' office. "Fucking weird."
No one says anything for a minute, and Roy has mentally moved on to planning next week's drills when Beard says, "Roy, everything that kid has ever done was to get your attention."

Summary
Nonlinear, Jamie thinks. Trent explained that to him once, and it stuck with him, the idea that not everything just keeps on moving forward all the time. Sometimes people fall back into old patterns, sometimes things don't happen in the right order. Sometimes you think a story is going to tell you what happens next, and instead it turns around to look the other way. But the story isn't really moving backwards when it does that, Trent said. It's just using the backwards look to build a stronger foundation for moving ahead.
"That fight was fucked up, yeah?" Jamie leans closer to Roy, smells the beer in his bottle and on his breath, remembers what it felt like to gulp one down in that bar after months of going without. Remembers what Roy's knuckles felt like smashing into his nose after years of going without.

Summary
Jamie spotted Roy, looking slightly confused but very happy under a disco ball, the tiny reflections chasing across his face. He was wearing one of his tie-dye shirts—not the one Phoebe made, one Roy had acquired for himself—and he had a drink in his hand, and even at that distance, Jamie could see something different in his stance. His shoulders were relaxed, and he didn’t look like he was posturing for a fight.
“Dani, wait.” Jamie pulled the other man back to him so he wouldn’t have to shout. “Is he on drugs?”
“Si.”
“What? Who the fuck gave that man drugs?”Bookmarked by archea2

Summary
“Whatcha thinking about?”
Jamie asks the question as he sits down, handing Roy a third beer, another held loosely in his other hand.
What is Roy thinking?
He thinks Jamie looks fucking picturesque, sitting there at the table on their patio, overlooking the ocean, backlit by fading sun’s light. The breeze rustles Jamie’s Walnut fucking Mist hair, his more-than-half-opened shirt. He looks relaxed and happy, sipping from his beer. The sight of it makes Roy so fucking hungry for something he doesn’t even have the words to name.
Roy looks away, gazes out at the push-and-pull of the waves instead.
After taking a long swallow from his drink, he finally answers Jamie.
“Football,” he lifts a brow, as if to say, ‘what else?’

Or, Roy and Jamie go to Brazil and Roy learns to let himself want.

Summary
"Just realised the gaffer don't pat me bum, like, ever. Pep did it all the time."
Roy shrugs. "Americans. They think it's fucking sexual harassment or some shit."
Jamie makes a face like what the fuck. "It's nice, though," he says. "Like a little 'good lad' without having to speak, y'know? I like it." He takes a swig of water and bounces on the balls of his feet, awaiting further instructions.
"Then I'll stop fucking doing it," Roy grumps, but they both know he doesn't mean it.

Summary
The amenities listed on the windmill's Airbnb page include a washing machine and tumble dryer, which Jamie finds a bit ridiculous (it's a fucking windmill) but he's grateful for it, because he really needs a shower and he wasn't looking forward to putting those sweaty pants back on. The amenities do not include spare clothes, and washing them takes a lot longer than the shower does, so Jamie just wraps a towel around his hips. It's not like Roy hasn't seen him in less.
