Summary
“Look,” Buck says, “Anyone can say that they’re bi.” He narrows his eyes. “I’d have to date a guy to prove it.”
“You’ve dated guys, Buck,” Karen points out, backing up her wife. “Even if you hadn’t, you’re still bisexual. I don’t see why you’re so insistent that no one will believe you.”
“You should get a nose piercing,” May says helpfully, while texting one-handed. “All bisexuals have nose piercings.”

They look at each other for a moment. It feels brief, but then again it doesn’t. Buck quirks his lip up, almost teasingly. “Ready, cowboy?”
Eddie thinks he could melt. The softness makes him vaguely nauseous, like he’s sinking. “I’m from Texas,” he reminds him, “Not a western.”

Summary
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Bobby,” Buck bites out. “He took three months off. Saw a physical therapist. Did a few sessions with Frank. Clearly, he’s doing great.”
Bobby chews his lip. “If you’re sure,” he says finally. “He just looked a little off at that car crash, is all.”
“I would have noticed,” Buck insists. “It’s Eddie. I would’ve noticed.”

Summary
“We should do this more,” Eddie suggests, on their way out to the car, Christopher’s nose already buried in some new book about gladiators. “I like spending my weekends with you.”

Summary
He sits bolt upright in his seat. Jee-Yun squeals at the sudden movement. “Holy shit,” he says out loud, simultaneously praying that it doesn’t become one of those words his niece repeats until it loses its sparkle. “I told Eddie I loved him.”
Jee-Yun laughs. It feels a little like she’s mocking him. “Dee,” she agrees solemnly, placing a tiny hand on Buck’s cheek.
Or: Buck goes home to Pennsylvania. It's more familiar than he wants it to be.

Summary
“What are you doing?” Eddie calls.
“Uh, getting ready for bed?” Buck asks. “I don’t really need an Ibuprofen. I was just being dramatic.”
“So why are you in the living room?” Eddie demands. Or, well, Buck can’t really see him, but he sounds pretty demanding. “My bed is down the hall. I’ll be there in a sec.”
“Well, jeez, Eddie. If you wanted to share a bed with me, you could’ve just asked.”

“Come on, bud,” Buck continues, backing into a corner and shielding himself from the onslaught. “I thought we were a team.”
“You’re my dad now,” Christopher says simply. “You can’t be on my team. You’re on dad’s team.”
And the look on Buck’s face, it’s so — there’s a — he’s speechless and turning to look at Eddie like he’s just been handed the world in a neat, little chocolate tin and Eddie’s…

Summary
“Hey,” Ravi says. “Scale of 1 to 10, how bad would it be if I assumed Eddie Diaz’s girlfriend was his wife in front of him?”
Lee groans. “Did you do it in front of Buckley?”
“Yeah?”
“A hundred,” she replies, turning the other direction before Ravi can demand to know why.
At three in the morning, it hits him. He bolts upright in his cot. Oh my god, he thinks. Buck and Eddie are divorced, and everyone forgot to tell me.

“Did you know,” Buck asks, “That one in four people are queer?”
Chim narrows his eyes at the crowded station kitchen. “And yet there are 20 firefighters on this shift,” he announces, a little too loudly. “Fess up, people!”
“I hope it’s Eddie,” Ravi says. “He’s hot.”
“That man,” Hen says firmly. “Is straight. I would know.”
Buck’s face does something complicated. “Yeah,” he agrees, voice pitched a little too high. “Yeah. Totally.”

“Uh, you sure you don’t want to invite Ana?”
“Eh.” Eddie makes a so-so gesture with his hands. “I thought the zoo was kinda a private thing.”
Chim raises his eyebrows. Bobby coughs in the Captain’s seat. The back of Buck’s neck flushes: hot and angry. Eddie doesn’t seem to notice any of this. He never does.
