And yeah, maybe the ring on his finger sort of burned when he looked at her sometimes, even though it was just for show, now.
It was just easier to let her keep thinking he was still married to Abby. Safer.
It raised less eyebrows about the nature of their friendship when the ring stayed on while he was at work, the weight on his finger reminding him not to say or do anything stupid.
It also made it a little less creepy when the pet names started slipping out.

Benedict is caught in a thunderstorm, and whilst wandering wounded and unconscious on his horse, is spotted in the heavy rain passing the Gunningworth farm. Sophie and her father take him in, and when he wakes from his fever, Benedict has no recollection of who he is. So whilst the Gunningworths try to find out where this wanderer has come from, he insists on working around their farm (though he definitely needs to learn a thing or two about farming). Sophie isn't too good at not falling for Ben's charm, and struggles herself to remember where it is that they have met before.

I don’t know this girl at all, but Shane’s been obsessed with her for years. If she was watching the game, she would have seen him get hurt.”
“You don’t need to call her,” Rozanov says, and when Hayden glances at him, he still looks fucking miserable but now he’s rolling his eyes, a much more familiar expression of disdain on his face. “She’s sitting right here.”
