    Summary

A routine apartment fire turns into another almost-tragedy when a rotting balcony collapses above the second-floor landing—right where Eddie is supposed to be. Buck watches it fall, hears silence on the radio, and feels the world tilt on its axis.

They get Eddie out. It’s “just” a sprain, “just” a few stitches, “just” another near-miss. But Buck can’t shake the feeling that he’s running out of almosts. Every close call, every quiet radio, every second Eddie is out of sight tightens a rope inside his chest that feels ready to snap.

Hen’s done watching him spiral, Ravi’s already figured it out, and Bobby keeps gently nudging Buck toward the truth he’s been avoiding for years: this isn’t just about a partner getting hurt on a call. It’s about Eddie.

Back on Eddie’s couch, with adrenaline fading and fear still humming, Buck finally breaks and says the one thing he’s never let himself say out loud. What he doesn’t expect is that Eddie’s been just as scared, just as in love, and just as tired of almosts.

A balcony falls, no one dies, and for once the thing that finally happens isn’t a disaster—it’s the confession they’ve both been running from.

    Summary

“Fuck it,” Eddie mumbled before unlocking the phone again and opening his text thread with Buck. They hadn’t texted since Buck asked him if he wanted a scone or a danish from their favorite coffee shop before their last shift. Eddie sighed and pressed the corner of the phone against his forehead.

He didn’t want to ask for help. He could spend another hour circling around the city. But he didn’t want to. He wanted this awful horrible day to be done. He wanted to hold his child and pretend for a little bit that everything was still whole. He sighed again before pressing call and pressing the phone to his ear.

    ————————

Eddie finally asks for what he needs in the aftermath of the sudden loss of his Abuela. Buck finally stops running from his grief. And then Eddie’s parents show up.

    Summary

“H-hey.” He frowns; he’s sure he remembers seeing Eddie on the calendar to work today’s shift. He longs for the days he would know without question because any time one of them took a day off they were in constant communication anyway. He doesn't remember the last time Eddie texted him. “Where’s Eddie?”

Hen and Chimney share a look. It makes Buck stiffen. Something’s wrong. He can tell something is wrong.

    “Buck, Eddie didn’t tell you?”

“Tell me what?” They share another look. Hen frowns. Buck can feel the panic rising up in his belly. If he’d managed to eat his breakfast, he knows it would be coming up. “What’s wrong? Is Eddie okay? Is it Chris?”

    OR;

the rift between buck and eddie keeps growing.

    Summary

It was his most prominent memory of his childhood. Her complaints over his untidy appearance, as if he was ruining their perfect family image. As if Maddie running as soon as she could didn’t stain that. Because Buck—Evan—being a ‘waste of potential’ and a disappointment really put their family on the map of outstanding. The wooden floors of his childhood house were thick, but never solid enough to muffle the acidic words his mother had for him.

His clothes weren’t spotless. He was always covered in blood, scrapes or bruises. The constant ER visits, neighbours whispering over the rowdy and reckless Buckley child. But his curly hair was the cherry on the shit-pie. In his mother’s eyes that was Buck’s—Evan’s—greatest sin. At least, for twenty-nine years, he thought it was.

Bobby takes Buck home after "Buck Begins" and finds out he has curly hair. They talk about it, in a roundabout way.

    Summary

“I’m really sorry, Eddie,” Buck says, quiet in the stillness. “I really am. I don’t know—I didn’t mean—”

Eddie holds up a hand to stop him. They’ve already gone over this, multiple times. Buck apologized to him again and again at the park, and sent a whole thread of apologies to Eddie via text while he was waiting at the hospital.

Buck doesn’t seem to realize that Eddie is all carrot and no stick. He pulled a dick move and fucked up Eddie’s ankle, and all Eddie has wanted to do since getting carted off to the ER is rush to reassure him.

A 7x04 alternate ending where Eddie goes to Buck’s loft instead of Tommy.
