Summary
The Little Mermaid is a classic romance story. She falls in love with a prince that she saves and through the power of that love she changes herself into a human, but due to the prince's ignorance of the truth is left to die. Even when she is given the choice to sacrifice him for herself, she chooses to dive into the ocean where she dies. A true martyr of love. Romantic love that is.
So what if the mermaid was aromantic, fascinated with not just the prince but the world in general? What would their story be when they don't have a voice to tell it? How often will history repeat itself until someone notices the pattern?
This is the third draft of my Aromantic retelling of The Little Mermaid. I wanted to write something that conveyed aromantic people's struggles and what better story than one about unrequited love?

Kitt had been hasty the first time he summoned the Eye of Cthulhu, desperate to prove he could conquer the Moon Lord’s challenge. He needed some sort of progress, something to prove he wasn’t way in over his head. He summed up his loss as not having good enough armor and not enough life. All he had to do was find a couple of the shiny bastards and he would have his shot at killing the Eye before it smites him and leaves him aching on the forest ground.
Right?

What happens when all that results in one too many hits to the head, and more concussions than the brain can safely endure?
Or, in which Steve protects, is tired, under appreciated, and far too caring to not carry responsibility and blame.

"You remembered?” Eddie looked over at Steve. Jeff was studying his face. His eyes were glossed over and massive. Like he was in disbelief that Steve had remembered something he said. “Of course I did Eds.” Steve answered like it was the most natural thing in the world. Like he had a bank in his brain full of things Eddie had said. "Thank you.” Eddie’s smile was genuine. The same smile Gareth wiped off his face earlier that day.
