He can’t sleep. It’s not for lack of trying. Weighed blankets, hot showers, meditation, even a silly self-help book from the university’s library. He’s tried them all, and still sleep remains elusive. Every night he spends staring at his ceiling, tensing at every shifting shadow, every quiet sound caused by the summer breeze knocking against his window. He knows where he is, most of the time. It’s the single seconds he doesn’t that rob him of his night’s rest.

Summary
What mattered most was that Blitz had Stolas in his life. Safe, taken care of, as happy as he could be. The Octavia thing was still an upsetting mess, one that could ruin the owl’s day if Blitz didn’t take care to steer wide around it, but they’d figure out a plan eventually.
Forget the what-if’s. Forget wanting dumb things he didn’t deserve. For now, he was living in the moment and feeling really good.
And that should have been his first clue that something Extremely Fucked Up was about to happen.

Six months after Stolas sacrificed everything, Blitz has resigned himself to letting the bird go off towards a new happily ever after (and never becoming more than friends again, despite his own tightly locked down feelings). But that plan goes completely off the rails when Stolas falls victim to a dangerous, never-ending curse and Blitz must untangle his own internal mess of self-worth, vulnerability, and love in order to save him.

It was a whimper, tiny and pained, coming from the beanbag a few steps away from him.
