Emmett-3 looks at his fireteam members, and he thinks— this is it. I have everything I need right here. When he sulks home after a rough fight, he smiles into his pillow as he checks his communicator. When Xynova and Pico bicker, pulling ahead of the group and leaving him and Cecil to follow in their wake, he grins. When they horrendously lose yet another round of Gambit, he still can’t help but feel a warm tingle in his chest and delight in their company.
When Cayde dies they huddle together in the aftermath, curled up on the floor of Emmett’s shuttle. When Guardians start using Stasis— start channeling the Darkness— they talk it through together. When Hive start using the Light, having Ghosts, they whisper across the stars about how to kill a Ghost.

Summary
Emmett-3 loves his Ghost, trusts him more intrinsically than anyone he has ever met. His Ghost is quite literally his soulmate, or however close a Guardian could come to such a thing. He knows it’s not his fault— knows it’s not his Ghost’s fault. But he can’t deny the way he watches Ghost out of the corner of his eye or listens for an otherworldly echo.
He can’t stop thinking about how quickly he aimed a rifle at his own Ghost.

She had to let go before Zooble ripped her forearms clean off. Zooble swiped through the tablet almost angrily as they muttered, “I don’t even know what you’re so pressed about. It’s not like your derby rider was that pretentious about – ”
Zooble cut themself off and went very, very silent.
Pomni’s mouth went dry. Dryer than it’d been even after a stress of time without real water. She watched, scared for a reason she couldn’t place, as both of Zooble’s detachable eyes widened. She could have sworn that their hot pink face turned almost salmon for a quick second before returning to its original shade. They set down the tablet and turned.
“Ragatha,” they said slowly, “why does the catalogue of NPCs include a mock-up of Jax?”

Summary
Zuko realizes his destiny much earlier. As in, as soon as he wakes up in the palace after his Agni Kai and is told he is banished. Unfortunately, he's never been a patient one. So he storms right up to Ozai and tells him what he's going to do. And gets locked up for over three years. Then, one day, he's being pulled out and told he's the new Fire Lord.
A "Zuko never meets the Gaang and suddenly becomes Fire Lord after three years of literal torture" AU. In which the Gaang doesn't know what to think of the new Fire Lord who happens to be the missing nephew of Aang's firebending teacher, Iroh constantly has a headache, and, sure, maybe the world hates the Fire Nation, but the Fire Nation LOVES Zuko, and he can work with that.
