Summary
Aizawa Shouta was an underground hero, and a teacher trained to see all the signs of abuse. And from the moment he started training Shinsou Hitoshi, he had his suspicions.
He noticed the beat up clothing, the odd unexplained bruise here and there, the flinches at sudden movements, how the kid lit up at every little praise or kind word.
His student gave no indication anything was wrong at home, was quick to brush off any questions. A practiced liar, with a practiced nonchalant air.
It was frustrating, but Shouta knew there was nothing he could do until the kid admitted the truth to him, no matter what he suspected.
So the underground hero watched, and he waited. For the day his kid felt comfortable enough to come to him, or for a sign big enough that the school could investigate.
And a few months into training, it all came to a head.

Aizawa takes Hitoshi in with his emergency foster parent license. Hitoshi doesn't know how normal family dynamics work, but he's about to find out. Cue lots of hurt/comfort and family fluff.

"What are those things, then?" Shorter asks, genuinely curious. What does Ash Lynx think he is good at, if not everything?
"Killing," Ash says immediately, with a challenging smirk on his face.
Caught off guard, Shorter gapes for a second. The kid's not wrong, but ...
"Ash ..." he starts, not sure how to play this. Then, trying to keep things lighthearted still, "There's gotta be something else, right? You don't seem like only a ruthless killer to me. What are you hiding in that brain of yours, huh? What else you got that you're good at?"
Ash hesitates, and for a second, Shorter thinks he's going to insist that he's really only good at killing. But then—
"Kissing," Ash says, so quiet and quick that Shorter almost thinks he misheard.
"Huh?"
Ash looks up at Shorter, smiling sweetly. He leans in close. "I'm really good at kissing," Ash breathes.
Shortly after juvie, Shorter learns more about Ash in a way he wasn't expecting to.

He stretches, a cat with a calculated nonchalance. "Don't feel bad about it. It's okay, Eiji. It's what everyone wants."
Eiji feels his expression harden. "Not me," he says. "I do not want anything that hurts you, Ash. This is really how you see yourself?"
Ash shrugs, languid and smooth. "I see the truth about myself. So what? What's wrong with being honest with yourself about what you are?"
Five times Eiji was proud of Ash, and one time Ash was proud of himself. Ash would offer himself to Eiji in every way, but Eiji only wants Ash to ask for what he needs.

Sokka flinches back. Whoaaa, how in Spirits name did Zuko project his voice like that? Sokka didn’t even see him move his lips.
As if he can hear Sokka’s thoughts, Zuko turns his head to look directly at him, eyes bewildered.
And this is where Sokka realises something is very, very wrong.
Two minutes later: “No way!” Sokka shakes his head wildly, just as prince jerkbender across him curses. “I’m soul bonded- To him?! No way! That’s just spirit mumbo-jumbo!!!”
-or, through some freak Spirit accident involving Zhao, the Avatar, and the continuous joke that is both their existence, Sokka and Zuko have been soul-bonded and mentally linked. Neither of them are particularly happy with this.

The first time it happens, Bucky has no idea how to react. He and Steve are walking down the street, when a slight woman takes in Bucky’s terrified eyes, the dark circles so bad they almost look like bruises, and Steve’s protective hand resting on his lower back, guiding him down the busy sidewalk (but it must look possessive, to someone looking for a sign), and comes to the wrong conclusion.

Putting one foot in front of the other in a grim show of stubborn determination, gritting his teeth and bearing it. Survival was all he had ever been taught. He knew how to do it. So when he was kidnapped by the Southern Water Tribe, he expected to fight as he always had. He didn’t expect to be taught instead how to live.
In a warring land, the Water Tribe forgave the enemy in an act of defiance. For this, he was torn from them, and this time, his wounds won't heal so easily.
Forced back into nothing but survival, the last person Zuko expected to see was Hakoda's son. Hakoda was a promise of safety. The relentless blue of Sokka’s eyes was a promise of happiness. Zuko could have both if he just reached out his hands, but he found them clutching into fists. After all, he’d been burned one too many times.
But hey, at least between Hakoda and Sokka, Zuko could appreciate the family resemblance of pure, asinine stubbornness.
