Summary
Kurt Wagner’s life has become (relatively) steady: he’s got friends, classes, a routine, a place to sleep(even if he turns it down for the roof), a burgeoning mom/cool aunt figure in the woman who might actually be his mother, and even a crush who’d never in a million years like him back. Pietro ‘Peter’ Maximoff has reached a level of stability hitherto undreamt of: friends, classes, a sweet pad, an awkward relationship with the terrorist that was his birth father, and a foreign language grade that doesn’t suck abysmally thanks to the help of a really cute boy who he can actually catch his breath around. Classic school stuff, right?
Until Peter vanishes in the middle of the night, and both of them realize just how far they’re willing to go for the people they love. They’re not going to let each other go so easily. Not without a fight.
The night before Peter disappeared, Jean had woken up screaming.

Mystique tries to avoid Germany. Germany has bad memories. Germany is where she gave birth to her son. Germany is where she had to leave him. Germany is where her son died. But sometimes, she has to visit.
She is traveling through Munich when she sees a flier advertising a circus. She hasn't been to a circus since she was 11 years old with a bright-eyed telepath who still saw good, who still saw the glass as half full.
She envies them.
The flier is declaring that anyone and everyone should come see the mutant, Nightcrawler, who will astound, amaze, and entertain. She crumples up the flier up and throws it in the nearest garbage can.

They start out as distant teammates: Peter thinks Kurt is "way too cute for this world" and teases his innocence relentlessly, while Kurt admires Peter's confidence and speed, seeing in him a freedom he envies (Peter runs without fear of being judged, while Kurt teleports but still hides his face).

Summary
Todd wakes up before dawn with an ache behind his eyes and a gnawing hole in his thoughts that nothing seems to quiet. Kurt finds him chewing things over on the balcony of the beach house they're renting and they talk about the ways to catch yourself when you're in free fall. No miracles ensue, the wound doesn't vanish, but for the night, it's enough to get to the dawn.
