“Jimmy!” Joel called, and the younger boy stopped in his tracks.
“Wha? Oh, hey Joel,” Jimmy blinked for a second. “And uh– Sir Grian.”
“Oh none of that crap, we’re off duty,” Joel didn’t slow as he passed, roughly patting Jimmy’s shoulder. “Hurry up let’s go.”
“You can’t just be off duty,” Jimmy protested even as he followed, falling into step with Grian. “We still have to use formalities.”
Joel rolled his eyes. “Please I’ve used up all my formalities today, you don’t know how exhausting Chromians or Enhanters are. Gods, I leaned back in my chair once and it was like I’d insulted their whole lineage. Entitled pricks.”
Jimmy snorted. “Just banish them.” he said. “You could do it.”
“Don’t tempt me.”

“Really?” Pearl asked. “You won’t do anything at all to help us, or talk to King Joel, or do anything to help him?"
Grian didn’t like where this conversation was heading. Luckily the armory was getting closer.
“Listen, Grian, we know you’re still grieving. You and the king. But this is not the way to handle it.”
Grian shook Gem off his shoulders. “Your time is up,” he said, voice flat.
Or; Does anyone else ever think about how Joel went kinda mad after Jimmy’s death and Grian just drifted further and further away, waiting for him to die? Cause I do.
