Summary
Alex had never really put much thought into the sky above him. In retrospect, he’d taken the stars for granted. They were seldom visible in big cities, and having gone from DC straight into New York, he was lucky to get a glimpse of half a dozen of them at a time. It didn’t usually bother him- not until Henry.
Henry grew up with a father who had shined just as bright as the stars for barely a fraction as long. He’d loved the stars like a security blanket, had sought them out through celebrations and crises alike, and though he’d never say it, Alex could see the way he ached every time he turned his gaze up toward the sky. Alex longed for constellations he’d never learned and hoped that someday Henry would be willing to teach him what he knew.
With any luck, that “someday” would be tonight.

There was a pleasant haze around the edge of Henry’s vision that made everything feel warm and syrupy. Alex kissed his way down his neck and Henry arched into it, lost in the feeling of having Alex wrapped around him so completely. He skimmed his hand up the length of Alex’s back, tangling his fingers in the soft curls at the nape of his neck.
“Love you,” Alex murmured into his shoulder. Henry tightened his grip and nodded while Alex continued to move inside him.
“You too,” he sighed. “Love you.” He let his eyes flutter shut as he rolled his hips against Alex’s, too tired to do much more but too blissed out to want to stop.

“I don’t know, anything,” Alex told him earnestly. “Everything I knew about you before all this came from articles and news segments. That’s not the real Henry- I don’t give a shit about whoever that guy is. I want to know more about you.”
“Oh,” Henry blinked at him, vaguely bewildered. “You realize that implies you give a shit about me now, right?”
“Yeah, yeah, don’t let it go to your head,” Alex rolled his eyes but Henry could see him fighting a smile.

Henry didn’t notice what Alex was up to until they were nearing the end of their meal. It took Alex shifting in his seat with a grimace for it to finally click:
“Are you alright?” He raised an eyebrow and glanced at Alex’s empty glass; it was far from his first water of the night, and it was only then that Henry started doing the math in his head. “Shall we stay for dessert?”
“Hmm, I don’t think so,” Alex told him as he squirmed again. “Unless you want me to make a scene.”
