Summary

Gerard remembers when the doctors told him. He'd thought he was just sick, but he remembers the surprise, the giddiness, the incandescent barely-credible joy that rose in him at the news that he was going to have a baby. He cradles the memories in his mind like the doll in his arms. It isn't his baby, no matter what the dictator says. But the only baby he has now is the doll, so, with nothing else to hold, he holds it.
The omega leader of the Black Parade wasn't supposed to get pregnant. But when his tangles with the dictator result in a child, he must lean on his band to create a family, and to know what is and isn't real in the coming months.

“It has to feel real.” Gerard said with certainty. It was just like everything else he did. Even the shows, when Gerard was covered in fake blood and spouting demented nonsense at the crowd. It was somehow all still real, still authentic.
