Summary
Draco was not an Alpha, not really. To truly take the mantle of Alpha one needed a pack and he was alone, utterly alone. Yet he had killed Fenrir, ripped his sire’s heart clean from his chest with his own clawed hand during the Battle of Hogwarts. That violent act had imparted on him an ancient magic. Pack magic. Alpha magic.
He had first caught her potent scent that very night, it was a pure beacon amongst the oppressive metallic tang of blood and decay. He had known in that moment what it meant, that she was his. His mate.

“Rough, I think,” she hurriedly admitted, just above a whisper.
“What was that,” Draco moved closer to her, shifting his head so that his ear was closer to her mouth. “I didn’t hear you.” He heard her just fine, but this moment was too delicious not to milk.
“I like rough sex,” she said louder, forcing him to turn his ear away from her mouth and stare into her determined brown eyes. “I think.”
Draco, amused, stepped closer to her, entering her personal space where she was perched on the table. “You like rough sex…you think?”
She averted her eyes from his intense stare and nodded.
“And why is it that you think you like it rough, but don’t know that you do?”

Like the first sip of scotch after puffing an enchanted cigarillo. She felt her mouth water as his scent thickened in the air, signaling that he was near. Likely standing just across the street in the alcove he favored. He loved to lurk there every so often, looking up at her through her bedroom window. Watching. Always watching. Never coming any closer.
Well, it was certainly time to change that.
Smiling smugly to herself, she sat down on her bed to lay back against the pillows and begin reeling in her most deftly-set lure.

First, he stretches. Then, he exercises. He eats breakfast, and watches the street he lives on come to life -- the old man and his corgi, the baristas at the coffee shop, the woman who jogs, the daughter and father, and the Indian grocer all making their appearance. Then, he showers, shaves, dresses, and heads to his job as an Auror, where he has been on desk duty ever since he was pulled from the field because of The Incident.
Draco lives his life by his Ministry mandated Mind Healer routines, and he is trying to get back to being Potter's left-hand man, but the cannonball to his careful regimen comes in the form of a very cranky Hermione Granger.
Banter, fluff, eventual smut, an ensemble cast of friends and family and weddings and babies. Told in mostly Draco's POV, but the occasional random one, because who says Draco is the most reliable of narrators?
It’s a character-driven slow burn.
