    Summary

Is there such a thing as a third chance in Hollywood? Xie Lian has never expected one, not after the career-ending mistakes he’s made. He’s burnt bridges with nearly all of his former friends in the industry. He’s single-handedly ruined a movie. He’s lost everything. The most he can hope for is that his infamy will fade quickly to obscurity.

Instead, he’s been handed the leading role in Director Jun Wu’s newest film.

He expects the worst of it; the increased scrutiny, difficult encounters with former friends, coming face to face with the ghosts of his past. What he doesn’t expect is to meet the one true fan he has left in Los Angeles.

“You don’t think that’s going to look suspicious?" He Xuan snorted. "The same day he blocks you on the last app you have to stalk him with, your roommate wants to be his Instagram buddy? The guy broke up with you because you’re creepy, don’t-”

He stopped abruptly. Hua Cheng had grabbed the back of his chair and swivelled him around.

“He did not,” Hua Cheng said, slowly, “call me creepy.”

‘Codependent’ was the word he’d used. Hua Cheng hadn’t even known what the fuck that’d meant.

Or: Xie Lian has broken up with Hua Cheng for being codependent. Hua Cheng is determined to show him he's not, even if he has to stalk every one of Xie Lian's friends to prove it. Somehow he accidentally stumbles upon some personal growth and self-esteem along the way.

“Alright.” Hua Cheng said, rolling his shoulders back a few times. “Oh magnificent god of mine, Taizi Dianxia,” he said, grinning, eyes firmly locked on Xie Lian’s. Xie Lian made a show of rolling his eyes. “Grant me your strength so I might vanquish your enemies on this mortal plane.”

Sorcery grad student Hua Cheng accidentally summons long-forgotten god Xie Lian into his dorm room in the middle of the night. They figure things out from there.

“Guys,” Pei Ming announced. "I have an idea."

"The fuck? That sounds so fucking dumb," Feng Xin furrowed his brows. "I'm in."

“WHAT?!” Mu Qing shrieked and looked at Xie Lian, his last hope, “Stop them from doing something idiotic!”

Xie Lian scratched his cheek, “Ah, well… I’m actually interested in it too.”

His last hope was a failure and all Mu Qing did was groan very loudly, “Oh my god. I’m surrounded by idiots.”

Or. The gang wanted to try what it's like to summon a demon. Due to Xie Lian's luck (or lack thereof), he managed to summon the demon king.... in his living room.

    ....and they became roommates...?

    Summary

    ————
Hua Cheng looked so… familiar. Xie Lian couldn’t quite put his finger on it, didn’t know if it was the silky black hair or the kind auburn eye or the soft, gentle smile. Perhaps it was the younger man’s voice that sparked Xie Lian’s memory— the low, soft timber of it, the way it rumbled in his chest when he laughed. It certainly had Xie Lian feeling something.
    Oh, gods.
This year wasn’t going to be as uneventful as Xie Lian had hoped, it seemed.
    ————
Xie Lian was ready for college.
Well, he had said that the last four years of college, too, but he had high hopes for senior year. After not doing so well in pre-med, or even high school… or middle school, either, for that matter— he was determined to get something right. He wasn’t going to let anything distract him this time.
Or, that was his plan, until he met his roommate for this semester: fine arts major Hua Cheng. Charming, distracting, and somewhat familiar, Hua Cheng manages to throw a wrench in Xie Lian’s plans for perfection.
And the more time that passes, the more their relationship develops into something a lot more serious than just roommates.
