this fic is everything to me, actually. I cannot and will not be normal about this.

Summary
“Venka pretended not to acknowledge the warm tingles Rin’s fingers left as their hands touched. Pretended not to notice how the tiny touch had burnt itself into her bones and marrow, leaving an ache for more in its wake.”
(Or: 4 times Venka realised she’s in love with Rin, and the +1 time she told her.)

YES YES YES YES YES. absolutely going feral over the doomed lesbian situationship we could've had if rf kuang had been brave enough. this fic is so lyrical: poetic and undulating and soaked in the tragedy that only children who were never made to be saved could create.

Summary
“You kissed me.”
“Yeah.” Missy tilts her chin up. It comes out sounding defiant — and why not? “Yeah, I did. Problem?”
“No.” Paige says, processing. “Just… why did you?”

LESBIAN MISSY COOPER TRUTHERS RISE AT DAWN!!!
but seriously! this fic was everything I could've asked for and more. the lyrical, hypnotic descriptions of Paige and the heavy tension coating the air whenever Missy shares space with her is beyond spectacular. Missy's role as the glass child particularly hits hard, and while it's not the focus, the tidbits of her relationship with her family members dig into the narrative, serving as sharp reminders of what it's like to constantly be compared and come up short. her resentment of Sheldon for being abnormal and emphasis on Paige, despite being just as smart, having more empathy towards her friends ties very well into Missy's compulsion to keep coming back, circling this girl who dominates her teenhood and through whom she is learning what it means to become a woman and grow up.
another thing I liked a lot was the period-typical attitude towards LGBTQ. queer people have always existed, and I love how this fic never shied away from an accurate portrayal of a queer romance in the '80s/'90s, especially considering that Missy/Paige live in Deep South bible country.
there's honestly so much more I could say about this fic but mainly, I'm just really glad I read it.

Summary
[Eloise] looked into the carriage at Hyacinth and raised her eyebrows, jerking her head in the direction of the building behind her. The facade was built of faded stone. It seemed to pulse with energy, or life, or something else that Hyacinth could not define, but the effect was thrilling and novel all the same. “Well? Are you coming?”
A challenge. Hyacinth was very good at challenges. She hopped down from the carriage and followed her sister into the fray.
Or: the incomparable Hyacinth Bridgerton resolves to eavesdrop, meets her sister’s…friend, and learns about feminism. In that order.
