“Lance!” Hunk squeaked, high and tight. “What are you doing here?”
Lance didn’t even look at him. He was looking at Keith.
“Keith,” he said, an odd quality in his voice. “Next time you have an important, private conversation, make sure your comms are off.”
Keith stared in confusion for a minute. Pidge let out a near-silent oh shit and Hunk’s jaw dropped. It was then that it clicked. Keith could feel all the blood leaving his face.
Lance… Lance heard all of that.
Fuck.

It should have been impossible. It really, really should have. The two smaller robots were positioned in front of the gladiator, and the gladiator was in motion, and all his vitals should have been hidden. Should have. The knife flung from Lance’s hand, straight and deadly, and it slipped in a narrow gap between one of the robot’s fucking fingers and nailed the gladiator right through the heart. Round complete. Begin next round?

Lance thought about crawling into the pool. Clothes on and everything. He imagined sinking slowly to the bottom, watching bubbles float past his face as he emptied his lungs, letting silence pour in. Until there was nothing left but the burn in his chest, the crushing weight, and the quiet rupture of thought and blood and heart as the world dimmed around him. Drifting, stuck. Lance doubted it would feel any different than he felt right now.

All she knew was pain. Pain, and the muffled cackling surrounding her. Pidge’s mind disintegrated, as did her soul and the world. Everything was fire. It was acid. It was the stretch of non-existent limbs beyond the physical capabilities, it was water filled lungs, it was inhuman laughter. It was the fear of death, in the corner of her eyes, stalking low on it's haunches, waiting. But It wouldn't catch her. No, Pidge would escape. She was going to save everyone even if she died trying.
