“I had wondered—” Erwin coughs again, and is cowed into lowering his gaze when the Captain looks at him. He has the most scrutinising of stares. Erwin isn’t sure if he can see out of his left eye, but in that moment, it could well be penetrating his heart. “Ah, that is. In your letter, you didn’t mention much. Of what you expected from me during this session.”
The Captain takes so long to answer, that Erwin begins to think he does not feel inclined to say anything at all. He finishes his tea, and returns his cup to the tray. “What does your job usually entail?”
“Usually? Well, I might accompany a client to an event, or have dinner with them, or simply keep them company.”
“Do you have sex with them?”
“Yes.” Erwin swallows.

“Harry, I shouldn’t act so…” Kim stopped. Something about Harry kept his train of thought breaking. It was like, over-and-over, the logic was falling apart. Or like part of him thought he should say no, while another part screamed at him to say yes. Harry knew what that felt like.
SUGGESTION - Shut him up.

Summary
The Narrator could do a better job at being a human than Stanley, and could complete his game faster than Stanley. So confident were they of this they offered Stanley a wager. An insurmountable challenge for Stanley to rise to meet, of course, and a stupid bet to take on his part, but Stanley was nothing if not stubborn.
