"Not even if I tried," Alex assured, bringing his lips close for a kiss without contact, a seal of sincerity that transcended letters and words.
Henry wasn't finished. He held Alex's gaze with an intensity that defied the barriers between them.
"Promise we will be the Florentino and Fermina of our time? That no matter how much time passes, you will still love me?"

“Alex, my love, why are you wearing your court suit?”
“Because I’m courting your family?” Alex quips, but it comes out more like a question. Henry is standing outside his apartment, looking incredibly fond, but otherwise very casual. He has on jeans, for one, and a soft sweater that Alex kind of wants to rub his face against.
“Remember when we agreed to be honest with each other?” Henry asks, pushing his way into Alex’s apartment. He makes his way directly to Alex’s bedroom, and the fact that Henry even knows where his bedroom is, the fact that he moves around Alex’s apartment like he belongs here, makes something incredibly warm settle in Alex’s chest.

“It’s not about that,” Alex says, voice stable. He leans back in, still cleaning wounds, a crease in his forehead growing as he reveals more bruises as he wipes away blood.
“You manage to act like it,” Henry grits out, pushing through the pain.
“What the fuck does that mean?” Alex snaps back, but the withering look in his eyes is a stark different than his hands resting delicate against Henry’s body, and Henry can’t fucking think.
It’s a shock, then, when Alex’s voice comes in as angry, clear as day, “Who the fuck did this to you?”

Summary
Bea tells him he’s lonely in the city, without her or Pez around. He argues back that he’s alone, not lonely. Alone means he has time and space to think. Lonely, on the other hand, is an effect, an all-encompassing melancholy which Henry certainly doesn’t experience; he has the children and staff at the music studio, and sometimes Pez visits from Oxford. And of course he has David, who does accompany him when it doesn’t interrupt the dog’s nap schedule. On these walks, Henry is alone, not lonely.
