Scotty's lips twitch into a smile for a moment before his expression once again becomes serious, though Jim is thankful for the fact that the engineer's weapon has been lowered to the man's side. It means that this Scotty doesn’t see him as a risk.
“Now I know that at least one of those things are not true. Captain Pike is the Commander of this ship, not you.”
Kirk stares at the man in red and smiles at the fact that Scotty is so calm and collected regarding this not so small inconsistency. Time to test that calm to its limits.“Actually, everything I said is true, just not in this universe. I think I may have been accidentally transported to a different dimension… universe… reality… whatever you want to call it.”
An ion storms leads to Jim Kirk travelling to a different universe, where he meets a different Spock. Things get interesting to say the least.

John, swayed away from Vought years ago, has taken over all of the neighbourhood associations and roams the community with his pack of Karens. He's found his people.
Billy is exasperated, but weirdly content.

Summary
After a disastrous mission, during which Jim loses two crew members, including Chekov, but saves McCoy, a seriously injured Jim retires from Starfleet, his body broken and maimed, his mind reeling from survivor’s guilt, and the marriage of Spock to Uhura, who carries his child.
Years later, the former crew of the Enterprise is widely dispersed. Jim lives a reclusive life as the lone occupant of his long dead family’s farmhouse. Through a brief affair with Carol Marcus, Jim has a son, but isn’t a part of the boy’s life. Bones is an alcoholic, dealing with survivor’s guilt of his own. Spock’s marriage to Uhura fell apart when their baby son died in a tragic accident. Spock seeks solace from his own painful life by plans of undergoing Kolinahr, the purging of all emotions.
Into all this, Bones arrives in Riverside one day to get Jim to attend Bones’ daughter’s wedding in San Francisco. Jim’s agreement changes everything.

Summary
Jamison Kirk never became captain of the Enterprise. Instead, she is first officer to Captain Spock. The relationship between them, personal and professional, is painful. When a transporter accident takes her to a parallel universe Jim finds a Spock that is so different to her own. He is open, comfortable in his skin, and happy and, when he shows an interest in her, she begins to fall in love but is scared of eventually being rejected and treated with indifference like she was with her own Spock. Is the grass truly greener on the other side?
