Not for the first time, Lottie feels her twisted gratitude at the fact that it hadn't been Natalie bubble up inside her, and threaten to spill out from between her lips before she pushes it down, forcing it to simmer at a respectable temperature, as her eyes struggle in the low light to make out the contrast of Nat's shaggy hair against its background of moss covered pine trees. Nat is here, she's alive, and that's all she can bring herself to think about in this moment.
Or: Natalie survives the hunt, for the most part.

Grief can cause distance between close friends and bring closer the distant ones.
