Summary
Hiding who you are as a person probably sounds like a nightmarish task for most people. For Yuma, who prides himself in his perfected act of camouflage, his safety comes from the fact that nobody knows who he actually is. He played the role so well that his reward is a place in the final lineup of a group with eight other boys that have the same dream he does. Everyday feels like a lie and the deception weighs down on him, but he cannot bring himself to come clean, even with his life in danger.
(TL;DR, Yuma thinks nobody can see underneath the snark and silly jokes he uses to deflect from who he really is. Spoiler, the rest of &team know who he is and love him despite it anyway). -

Summary
“I have always interpreted my lifelong interest in lists as a similar expression: the relief of asserting some superficial order over the unmanageable. The reduction of the infinite to the singular column, the imposition of linearity.”
— Melissa Febos, The Dry SeasonYuma watches him now, this stranger in a fading Tokyo University tee shirt who shares his walls and his bathroom.
It’s not that Jo looks uncomfortable. It’s just, he looks alone in a way the others don’t.
And maybe, Yuma thinks, that’s on him to fix.

Summary
“It’s nothing to do with breakfast,” Jin whispers into the phone. He smiles at people as they appear and set up their own spaces with chopping boards and knives at the ready, but inside he is shrieking, and he feels like it might soon spill out. “I’m doing that class I told you about. There are more people here than I expected, Yoongi, and one of them looks like a thug. I’m scared.”
OR Jin is a love struck fool but coincidentally, so is Namjoon.

Summary
Yuma, a well-liked student friends with pretty much everyone in his department, struggles to be human. On paper, he checks all the boxes: he laughs at people's jokes, he encourages his classmates when they're insecure, and he accepts invitations to hang out. The longer it goes on, though, the more wrong it feels. It's all a performance, choreographed down to the last detail, but it seems to work a bit too well when seven—make that eight—men eagerly stick to his side like glue. They're overwhelming and confusing and so awfully trusting. Yuma doesn't get it.
Jo might make him finally understand.
(or, alternatively: yuma meets jo in winter. he's calm and quiet like the snow. maybe it's exactly what yuma needs.)

Bookmarker's Notes
I actually love this author a normal amount. How do they always manage to capture the vulnerability and uncertainty of diseases and disabilities while also placing emphasis on communication and love and community and togetherness??
Finished chapter 8.
