Summary
I just haven’t wanted anything to shift our dynamic. I know it sounds stupid, but it's the truth. Our relationship was rocky, to say the least, when I came back from Lenora, and even though Mike and I have been good for years now, there’s still that fear in the back of my head. That any major change would jeopardize what we have. Mike’s always been the protector, and I like that about him. I like that he stands up for me against bullies, and I like that he’s always making sure that I’m ok. No, I don’t like feeling like I’m weak, but Mike manages to protect me without demeaning me. It’s nice, better than nice, even.
And Mike likes it too. He needs to feel useful, and I can give that feeling to him. So why would I go and mess that up? Spider-Man can protect himself. Spider-Man can knock a bully’s lights out in a second flat. But Will Byers? Will Byers can’t do that, and that’s the person Mike likes being friends with. I wanna keep being the person that Mike likes being friends with.

Summary
Mike grabs Will’s hands and tangles them with his own, blinking up at him through his long, dark lashes. His eyes are endless. Solid black, like the night above them. So shiny that Will can see himself, tipsy and happy, in the reflection. “I want to be stuck with you,” Mike whispers, like it’s a secret. “I don’t ever want to leave.”
Will sucks in a sharp breath, squeezing his hands. “Then don’t,” he whispers back, punched-out and honest. “Stay.”

Summary
Will lets out a small squawk as Mike’s hand— his very cold, very freezing hand— finds its way around the blankets and under his sweater. “I’m sick, you weirdo,” he says, half-laughing into the side of Mike’s head, “I have a fever.”
“I don’t care,” Mike mumbles, “you’re warm and I’m cold. This is nice.”
“You’re going to get sick,” Will tries, for the umpteenth time, but it’s pointless. Mike Wheeler is stubborn and hardheaded and he never does anything halfway— not even this.
Will gets sick. He's dealing with it. Seriously, Mike- he's fine.

Summary
"I just need you to know," Will says quietly, and he makes himself hold Mike's gaze, "that if something happens - if I hurt you, or anyone else - it's not because I wanted to. I would never want to hurt you, Mike. Never."
The words hang between them, loaded with more meaning than Will intended.
There's a pause where all Will can hear is their breathing echoing against the storage closet's walls. The hum is more distant now, buzzing in the back of Will's mind, but the uneven inhales coming from in front of him sound louder. The breath tickling his nose (because they really are that close) feels realer.
Mike's eyes are still darting across Will's face, and Will can feel him inhale sharply. "Will, why are you so convinced you're going to hurt someone? What did Vecna show you?"
Everything, Will thinks. He showed me everything. Showed me killing you over and over until I couldn't see anything else.
Somewhere between slaying interdimensional eldritch horrors, exploding an entire dimension, and risking their lives countless times, Mike and Will find each other.
