The yoga mums insist on a picture. He tries to push down any feeling of how sweet it is that Colin is Jamie’s iPhone lock screen. There is a loud chorus of awwwwwwww from the mums.
“He looks so cute!” Says Janice which makes Jamie goes red.
“So what’s the problem then?” Maureen cuts in, forever wanting to get to the point. He likes Maureen best.
“Well. The problem is that he doesn’t seem interested in me anymore. I thought things were going well but it feels like he is pulling away.”
There was a pause as each mum put their head to one side to process the information.
“Did you hurt him?” Susan asks, kicking off the interrogation.
Jamie shakes his head “No, I always use three fingers first.”

There’s these memories Colin has, that he tries not to touch, whose shape he isn’t quite aware of, even when they hang in his head like a noose. All of him aches, when he thinks about them. When he starts seeing Jamie’s face behind his eyelids– when the memories rise and rise like tsunamis, all blue and big, so big– he lets Jamie’s face gets bigger, lets his teeth shine bright behind his eyes. Lets himself have this, because this is all he gets.

He doesn’t know how long it takes until his face stops vibrating and he can’t feel the ants anymore and he can breathe. Jamie is there, palms splayed on Colin’s back and Colin knows he’s sweating– must smell disgusting but Jamie’s palm doesn’t move.
“Alright, mate,” Says Jamie and he sounds almost winded, “what the fuck, Colin?”
“I'm sorry,” Colin mumbles.
“Nah, don’t say sorry,” Jamie says, “but you need to get up, mate, you’re bleeding.
