“I’m gonna do it, ‘kay, pretty?” Steve nods, and Eddie’s eyes flutter shut as he takes a hit. A hand reaches around and snags Steve by the scruff, pulling him close and slotting their lips bare centimeters apart. Eddie breathes out slowly, and Steve breathes in. It feels scratchy and it’s sort of weird, how all this smoke was inside Eddie’s mouth and now he’s feeding it to Steve. But Eddie is so close and even if Steve doesn’t like smoking he thinks he’ll fake it if it means they’ll do this again.

Eddie and Steve didn't fight. It wasn't an official rule they'd written down somewhere, stuck on the fridge between the chore chart and the grocery list. Yet by a certain point, it simply felt like a rule of the universe, the ones that governed space and time and held together the sun and moon and stars.
Max allowed that to comfort her; coming home every day to Steve and Eddie's at most playful bickering allowed her to find solid land when everything around her was spinning out of control.
Naturally, when she heard the shouting, her stomach turned to lead.

Summary
Bumped to the lowest step on the social ladder after his fight with Billy, Steve gets roped in with the cheer team. What starts as a favor to help them out when one member breaks her leg in turn for protection from the brunt of the bullying, sets the universe on a different path.
He befriends Chrissy and grows as thick as thieves with her. Over the summer he adds Robin to his friends as well. Meanwhile Eddie seems to have taken an interest in the fallen king, but Steve can’t figure out quite yet why Eddie is talking with him. Flirting with him?
AKA a rewrite from after season 2 till after season 4 where Chrissy survives and Steve and Eddie get together that explores Steve's fall to the bottom of the social ladder and the what if he was gay and knew.

“Uh, you okay?”
Chrissy jerks under the sink, head banging against the porcelain hard enough to rattle her skull.
Eddie Munson stands in the doorway, hands tucked in his armpits like he isn’t sure what to do with them. He stares at her for maybe half a second before his gaze darts to the graffitied wall.
Chrissy gapes up at him, his frame mostly a blur of shaggy hair and denim, before reality hits her and she scrambles out from under the sink, knees shaky and locked up from being tucked under for so long. “What are you doing in the girl’s bathroom?” She demands, swiping at her face like he hasn’t already seen her in what is quite possibly the lowest moment of her life.
Hey, at least it wasn’t with her fingers down her throat.
Eddie rocks on his feet, still avoiding her gaze, “I don’t have a good answer for that seeing as how this is the men’s bathroom.”
Chrissy feels the urge to gag again.
Something in the corner catches her eye.

Eddie reached a hand out and gently tucked his fingers under Steve’s chin, tilting it upwards and turning Steve’s face just a little to the side as he observed something on Steve’s face with a look of intense speculation.
