Summary
Capt. Spaceboy is Captain of the Space Pirates, hence the name. Him and his crew travel the universe together, causing chaos along the way. Sounds amazing. You would think he'd be perfectly happy with his life. Except he isn't. Because he has a problem, a very big problem. He can't seem to get out of this toxic relationship with an obnoxious ruler of the sprout moles, who goes by the name Sweetheart. Whenever they break up, they just get back together again. It's an endless cycle. But one day after an argument with Sweetheart, he stumbles upon a painter trapped in the walls, who used to date Sweetheart in the past. Rococo. And he's just so interesting. Capt. Spaceboy finds himself visiting him again and again, and they get closer and closer. There's just something about him...

Summary
"Derek. Wake up." The voice reaches him first, thinned by distance, as though it has had to pass through water to get there. Then the light follows, golden yellow and unforgiving where it spills through the apartment window and lays itself across his closed eyelids like a hand that will not let him go. His eyes open reluctantly and the ceiling above him is the wrong one, not because it is strange, but because the hairline crack from the smoke detector to the corner feels known in a way that makes his chest tighten before he can place why. Mind slow and viscous, he blinks at it. He knows the crack. Knows, too, the faint water stain near the vent and the way morning light catches in the uneven paint beside wall, turning old white into something tired and yellowed.
Then a face leans into view. Pale skin dusted with freckles. Bright green eyes that have looked at him thousands of times before. Auburn hair cut short, burning copper where the sun catches it.
In that moment, Derek forgets how to breathe and for that same span his mind gives him nothing until it does.

His mind is not empty, no; far from it. Although the pressure feels faint and distant now, it is swimming and writhing with all the same whirlwinds of knowledge as it was before, when he was confined to stare ad infinitum at that stupid, stupid computer.

Avery is sure that Derek is gone, and it's his fault, if he was just not so useless and stupid maybe he would still be here right? but, how can he be so sure that it's his fault? Until an unexpected text finally gives them an answer.

At the crossroads, Avery turns left.
The golden doors loom over his character, tall and identical, their surfaces catching the light in a way that feels just a little too deliberate. Even from behind the screen, a chill prickles along Avery’s arms.
Still, he swallows it down. Keeps going. It’s fine. It’s just a game.
He approaches the doors, takes one final breath, and then—
“A block of gold?”
Well, what had he expected, anyway?
Something grander?
Something scarier?
Something less boring?
“Well… that’s that, I guess.” Avery mutters, wrist twitching as he moves to turn his character around and head back, when—for better or worse—something interesting does happen.
His head suddenly feels… heavy. Too heavy. His vision starts to blur, the screen warps.
The room tilts—
And the last thing he registers is the dull thud of his head hitting the keyboard.
