After they defeat that creature and get the news that Will has been found and is in the hospital, they just fucking…collapse.
Right there, on Jonathan Byers’ bed.
Jonathan is exhausted after trying to find Will.
Nancy is exhausted after trying to find Barb.
And Steve is just tired.
There are matching scars on Jonathan and Nancy’s palms. Steve’s nose is busted up by the very boy who just grabbed him and saved him from a monster- after which, Steve saved him in return. Nancy's bat is loosely dangling from Steve's fingers.
And the three of them collapse, falling into each other, curling around each others’ aching bodies in Jonathan Byers’ cramped bed in the house with the peeling wallpaper and the burn scars on the carpet and the frantic alphabet scrawled on the wall in an attempt to communicate with a boy who couldn’t become a ghost.
They don't even have the energy to shower. To wash off the blood and the smell of smoke from burning hell-fire creatures.
They just fall into each other, the weight of gravity too hard to fight.

Adam knocked on the door and waited. And waited. And waited. He knocked again, and then it opened to Sam brandishing a gun, Dean behind him with a knife and a bottle of whiskey. When they saw him, they didn’t relax, but they didn’t attack either.
“Adam?” Sam asked, hesitantly. “Or… Michael?”
Adam knew he had to look ridiculous. Before, they’d seen him while he still had an archangel maintaining his body, but after the last day and a half? He was sweaty and sunburnt and dehydrated and he could almost feel the bags under his eyes. But another gift of the Cage was losing the ability to give a fuck what he looked like.
“Michael isn't home right now,” Adam said. “And I’d like to know why.”
