In any case, Light is doing just fine. He does not need a rival, he does not need his family and he most certainly does not need friends. He’s got himself, this world’s new God, which ought to be more than enough. He’s even sort of got Ryuk, who is passable company if he just sticks to discussing whatever earthly tidbit has caught his interest instead of dragging up the past, although Light has solemnly vowed to never let Ryuk in on this semi-appreciation.
And then there’s Mikami. Light’s most faithful servant, his closest ally, his current housemate and, crucially, his only way out of a life of constant boredom.
