Summary
Four days before Shane expects Ilya to be back on the ice in a random home game against Tennessee, the news finally leaks.
Shane feels like he should be hiding under a table, sheltering in place. It’s not even that bad. Just a short, clinical article on ESPN. Sources close to the Boston Raiders have confirmed that Conn Smythe winner Ilya Rozanov’s mysterious SOIR is due to a suicide attempt in August. The Team Captain was in Moscow at the time, but returned to Boston as soon as he was able to recuperate and seek treatment.
As far as terroristic invasions of privacy go, it’s compassionate.
But Shane knows what it’s like to constantly be under a microscope, and he wants, more than anything, for Rozanov to not be dissected and examined like a particularly fascinating insect. He can’t do anything about it.
Or: The summer after he wins the Cup for Boston, Ilya almost dies. Shane tries to cope.

Shane turns to him slowly, entirely unimpressed before his eyes glaze for a second and he snorts.

Shane tried to snap at the bear’s muzzle, but he found his sharp teeth did nothing as the bear merely dragged his wet tongue over Shane’s much smaller, pointed face.
Appearing satisfied with his work on Shane’s back and neck, the bear tried to coax Shane to flip around, showing off his belly.
There was nothing the much smaller hybrid could do as the bear overpowered him and pinned him down with his soft belly completely exposed.
The bear let out a happy rumble as he began lovingly grooming Shane’s belly. The brute was showing surprising care as he thoroughly cleaned Shane’s fur.------------
Fox hybrid Shane is separated from his family during a storm and found by grizzly bear hybrid Ilya. Shane's relief that Ilya won't eat him is short lived when he realizes that the bear has other plans for him.
