Dean’s entire life has been a string of bad luck: some because he’s suffered the consequences of drug kingpin John Winchester’s terrible decision-making, some because he seems to have inherited the trait. After being attacked in an alley, Dean is saved by a mysterious man in a trench coat. Castiel turns out to be a cop determined to arrest two key players in Chicago's illegal drug game; a corrupt politician, and a murderous drug dealer with a dark connection to Dean. He offers Dean an opportunity to turn his life around, in exchange for helping Cas gain access to these people. Their cover story? Castiel, or rather, 'Jimmy', is Dean’s new boyfriend.

Jack is distraught when a hopeless Dean meets his demise at the hands of a piece of rebar. As the new God, he knows all. He especially knows that Dean loves Cas as much as Cas loves Dean. So, discarding his commitment to remain hands off, he infiltrates the Empty to save his father, who he knows is the only person who can convince Dean to live again. Dean and Cas are close. Inseparable, even. Anyone who knows them would tell you that much. They met in freshman year, been roommates and teammates and everything in between since then, and Dean’s thinking it’s just that — the not living together anymore thing — but it’s been a little weird between them since they made the move off campus and back home to Sioux Falls. Cas must be feeling it too because it’s not three days later that he’s signing them both up for the local rugby team, which, given how messy their last season turned out, is probably a bad idea. Cas needs it, though, and Dean needs Cas, and so even though it is a really bad idea, he’s gonna do it anyway. Game on.

Summary
Dean is the proud and happy owner of Ramble On, a coffeeshop that he built and now runs with the help of two of his best friends. Bit too popular with the hipster crowd maybe, but if they like his coffee and his tunes, then they can't be all bad. They also don't complain when he serves them hungover, which, score.
Castiel works for Heaven, a corporate line of coffeeshops that all look identical, sound identical, and make coffee so terrible that he's surprised God himself hasn't popped down to say, "really?" He's stuck there though. Which he could cope with, if not for the locals who are all completely insane, including the furious proprietor who just happens to be right across the road.

Summary
Chuck is gone, Jack is dead, and Cas has left the bunker. All that remains for Dean is hunting, but even that backfires when he’s hit by a witch’s curse. The curse has him traveling through Cas’ past, doomed to witness his worst moments without being able to help.
By sheer luck, Dean finds a way to communicate with Cas, leaving him notes across time in an effort to make up for past mistakes and let Cas know he’s loved and valued. But will it be enough to change things for the better between them and end the curse that’s keeping Dean trapped?
