Summary
“How long has this been here?” Shane asked.
Ilya frowned. “What?”
“This,” Shane said, pressing gently.
Ilya flinched, more surprised than hurt. He twisted awkwardly, reaching back, fingers searching. “I don’t feel anything.”
“You don’t feel that?” Shane asked. His voice sounded wrong to his own ears.
Ilya sighed, irritation creeping in. “You’re poking me. Of course I feel that.”
“Ilya.”
“It’s probably nothing,” Ilya said, already pulling away, sitting up. “Muscle knot. I don’t know.”
Or,
Ilya is used to surviving alone. Shane won’t let him. When illness forces their lives to change overnight, they learn what marriage really means. Not in vows, but in the relentless decision to stay.Bookmarked by inconceivablejojo

Summary
They were once the greatest MLH draft prospects in the world - number one and two, in whatever order came to be on the day. But life had other plans, and all it took was a few weeks in ‘09 to see both Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander become nothing more than hypotheticals and statistical what-ifs deep in reddit threads and hockey chatrooms.
But still, their paths were destined to cross when Ilya took his daughter to her first skating lesson.

Summary
Shane wouldn't be so pissed if it was a one time occurrence but somehow it was a common theme throughout his whole life. Just because he was Japanese-Canadian people always seemed to have formed an opinion before he even opened his mouth.
He was either too Asian for the people here or too white for Japan, which only fueled his determination to prove his place in this world.
He was about to show them that he not only got the potential but that he was indeed the best when it came to hockey, which shouldn't be too hard as hockey was all he had in his life.
If only there wasn't Ilya Rozanov who would cross his plans.

Summary
When he was a child, death fascinated him. It was terrifying, and mysterious, and uncharted, and beautiful. The cowboys riding off into the sunset, the soldiers riding into battle. It filled every inch of the stories he was told. Fairy tales, myths, cowboy ballads-- his father sang him Streets of Laredo as a lullaby every night until he was six. He only stopped because it always made Soda too sad.
He had spent lots of time thinking about death-- anytime he’d look at the stars, it wouldn’t be long until he found himself wondering and yearning for something he couldn’t place. What was beyond them, if anything? What were they made of? Where did they go in the daylight?
