Frank took deep breaths. He’d been told he’d been sent to another home. Again. Nausea brewed in his head, an urge to scream, to act out again. He was tired of the names. The schools. Everything. No matter what ruckus he created, it was never enough. He buried his face in his hands. He wanted the world to burn. Or maybe just to burn himself, to stop existing at all. He honestly didn’t know what kept him alive. Perhaps it was to cause pain and suffering. Perhaps he had some nagging dull shred of hope in his dying heart. Whatever kept him tethered felt like it was fraying every damn time.

Caspar, by nature, has to help out people no matter what; it makes little difference whether the person in question is a stranger or not. But he didn’t imagine that danger would surface in the peaceful town of Garreg Mach, and that it would result in him accidentally lending a hand to a vampire.
It’s how Caspar ends up hiding Linhardt, said vampire, from a sinister presence lurking in the shadows of this town.

Michael hadn't even registered what was different until he'd seen the look of relief on Star's face and heard her whispered breath of, "It's gone, Laddie, it's finally gone."
He would have asked her what was gone if he didn't feel the exact what in question.
If he didn't feel the deep stirrings of hunger still sitting in his gut, twisting and pulling at him until he felt weak to its draw. If he didn't find his eyes inadvertently wandering to the exposed bronze flesh of Star's throat when Laddie thoughtlessly pushed her hair back as he flung his tiny arms around her neck.
Even with David's lifeless body some 30 feet away from him, all Michael could think about in that moment was the boy's words mere days ago:
"But you must feed."
